Born and raised in New York in a family of musicians, Josh Chertoff spent much of his early life immersed in music and film and made his first movie in his parents’ basement when he was 11 years old. After graduating from NYU Film School, Josh began his career directing music videos for indie rock bands in Brooklyn. He got his first bigger job directing a documentary series for A&E that took him across the country for a year in a cramped van with a five-member crew.
Josh has directed a number of short films that have played at festivals including Tribeca, SXSW, and Slamdance. He’s directed commercials and branded content for clients such as The New York Times, BBC, Alfa Romeo, Adobe, Reebok, Loréal, Condé Nast Traveler, and GE. His style incorporates bold visuals, strong atmosphere, and unique music choices that create immediate emotional experiences.
